Role description
The Damen Shipyards Group Tax team consist of the Head of Tax and Sr. Indirect Tax Manager. Considering a few significant SAP roll-outs and SAP related projects, the team is looking for backfilling of other indirect tax related work. You will work closely with the Sr. Indirect Tax Manager to jointly ensure the most relevant VAT related work gets covered in this period. The Sr. Indirect Tax Manager will focus during this period mostly on the SAP related projects, but some flexibility is available to align periodically who will take up what work.
Besides day-to-day VAT advisory work, in this period the following work would be relevant:
- Support the SSC Finance team with review of and practical guidance in preparing and finalizing 2024 and earlier BUA (VAT private use VAT recovery limitation) calculations.
- Draft newVATprocess /workdescriptions,includingnewstandardtemplatesfor:
- Preparing VAT returns, including the process and template for processing manual adjustments and performing VAT reconciliation. Where possible, automating or at least coming up with suggestions on how to automate some of the required steps (e.g. robotics, Alteryx, etc.) would be part of the work as well.
- Performing & documenting sample checks, including identifying the parameters for such checks. As part of this, work with our Analytics team to update/finetune the PowerBI VAT dashboard to become relevant for this activity.
- Preparing VAT pro rata calculation. Work with the Treasury and Damen Financial Services team to prepare the 2024 pro rata calculation (first time exercise) and determine new future process / template.
- Provide VAT training to the SSC Finance team and possible other teams within Damen, relevant training material is already available.
- VAT group review and drafting a request to the tax authorities to change the VAT group composition, including internal coordination of processing the changes in systems and processes.
- Other day-to-day VAT advisory work, including advising on tenders, new transaction types, specific customer / supplier questions, etc.
Profile
The candidate for this interim role ideally has some or more the following experiences:
- Many years in-house VAT advisory experience.
- Experience with navigating / working in SAP on looking up VAT relevant transactions, reports, etc.
- Experience with documenting, improving VAT reporting processes, ideally with some level of automation.
- Experience with using PowerBI or similar dashboards as part of day-to-day VAT (reporting) processes.
